Diet After Surgery
Continue to feed the same diet as before your pet’s surgery except decrease the amount by one-third to one-half. Also, it is best to divide the food into two daily feedings rather than feeding only once a day.
Pets that have surgery for Laryngeal Paralysis or other throat/oral surgery should be fed softened food for a duration of time determined by your surgeon. Softened food can be dry kibble that is soaked in water from between 30 minutes and 1 hour so it becomes soft, or can be canned food mixed with warm water to make a gruel. Dogs that have had surgery for laryngeal paralysis should have their food fed to them on an elevated surface.
